Edwina Flynn ‘extremely honoured’ to be appointed President of Newry Chamber of Commerce

Edwina Flynn has been elected to serve as the new President of Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday November 30, at Custom House, Newry.

Edwina is the current CEO of Wood Innovations Ltd, a flooring distributor, importer and wholesaler specialising in the supply of wooden floors throughout the UK and Ireland.

Prior to this, Edwina was Operations Director of Best Property Services for 16 years before she re-joined Wood Innovations in 2020, having been their first employee in 1996 for 8 years.

Edwina is a Business Studies Graduate from University of Ulster and an Accredited Executive Coach.

In taking over at the helm of Newry Chamber which represents over 300 members right across the Greater Newry Area, Edwina becomes the fifth woman in the Chamber’s long and rich history to take up the role of President following in the footsteps of Mary Doran, Deborah Loughran, Emma Mullen and outgoing President, Julie Gibbons.

Gary Digney, Partner at FPM Chartered Accountants was elected Vice President and Kieran Grant, Finance Director at Warrenpoint Harbour Authority will remain in his post as Treasurer of the Chamber.

In her acceptance speech, President Edwina Flynn said: “I am extremely honoured to be appointed as President of Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade. It is a privilege to be asked to lead and it is a personal passion of mine.

“I would like to thank outgoing President, Julie Gibbons for her commitment and leadership over the last two years and notably the last month of her presidency where she faced some of the most difficult issues we have faced as an entire community in the wake of the recent devastating flooding. Julie has been a tremendous mentor to me during my two years as Vice President.

“I am looking forward to working with our newly appointed CEO, Michael Savage and the Chamber team. There are challenging times ahead as we move towards a new year, however, I am optimistic and I promise to do my best to represent and support our members and key stakeholders during my presidency.”
