Sunnymead Residential Living are seeking a Care Assistant to join their team in Armagh.

Responsible to: The Home Manager

Reports to: The Care Assistant should report matters of concern to the Deputy Home Manager or Senior Care Assistant in charge of each shift.

Role: To contribute and cooperate as an essential part of the Sunnymead team to deliver person centred programmes of care to Residents, and to ensure high standards of care and professional practise are maintained at all times.

Sunnymead uses a “relationship centred approach to care,” this means you will be required to work as part of a team, which includes all staff grades, Residents, their relatives and multi professionals to achieve our shared vision, which is that –

Main Duties:

  • Deliver personal and social care to Residents which is in keeping with their individual care plan and risk assessments.
  • Communicate any changes in the Residents care needs promptly to the Deputy Home Manager of Senior Care Assistant in charge of each shift, this includes, for example, any observations you make in relation to the Residents personal ability, skin condition, mouth condition, mobility, physical or mental health, ability to
    maintain their personal safety.
  • Record in the Residents daily record the care you delivered, or observation you made regarding individual residents during your shift.
  • Communicate any risks identified with particular Residents, situations, equipment or estates promptly to the Deputy Home Manager or Senior Care Assistant in charge of the shift. This includes near misses.
  • Adhere to the verbal reporting systems within Sunnymead at shift change over in order to ensure effective communications and continuity of care.
  • Work as part of the Sunnymead care team to maintain accurate records of all aspects of care to Residents e.g. fluid balance charts, wandering charts, Menu sheets, accident/ incident and untoward events, complaints, near misses, statements.
  • Ensure any complaints or “expressions of dissatisfaction” are received by you in a professional manner and communicated to the Deputy Home Manager or Senior Care Assistant in charge promptly.
  • Participate, when required, as an allocated worker to provide support for new Residents during the first 48hours of their admission, to help the Resident to settle into Sunnymead.
  • Participate in the support and escorting of Residents to appointments and social outings when required.
  • Contribute to the ethos of Sunnymead in encouraging Residents to live contented, fulfilled and purposeful lives by participating in activities and events or by supporting individual social care activities for Residents who live in Sunnymead.
  • Participate when required, with general cleaning, laundry, kitchen duties and waste removal and disposal, in keeping with decontamination, infection control and C.O.S.H.H. standards and assist Residents with bedroom and cupboard tidiness.
  • Inform Deputy Home Manager or Senior Care Assistant in charge of any shortfalls in resources or equipment which you are aware of.
  • Work as a flexible and reliable member of the Sunnymead care team to provide care to Residents on a rotational basis.
  • Participate, when required, in the induction of new staff in Sunnymead.
  • Ensure vigilance is exercised at all times in relation to the safety and wellbeing of Residents, staff and visitors to Sunnymead, this includes ensuring all equipment available for Health and Safety, is used at appropriate times, and is in full working order, e.g. Moving and Handling equipment, personal protective equipment, uniform, wet floor signs etc.
  • Be aware about the aims and objectives of Sunnymead and at all times strive to meet and maintain the standards set.
  • Be aware of your and other staff requirements, under the Code of Conduct from the N.I.S.C.C. and ensure you take all reasonable steps to develop your own professional knowledge and competence, so that you may maintain your registration to practise within the care sector.
  • Prepare and be available for staff meetings, supervision, appraisal and mandatory training.
  • Co operate with the Home Manager to undertake specific work projects in accordance with the needs of the service.
  • Work as a flexible member of the team and demonstrate willingness to advance and adjust education and training in line with agreed occupational standards, N.I.S.C.C. or employer requirements.
  • At all times you must maintain a professional and caring attitude, to Residents, Families, Visiting Professionals, colleagues and members of the public, remembering you are a role model and a representative of Sunnymead.
  • Any other duties which may be requested in order to meet service requirements.

Important

  • The person appointed to this position will be required to adhere to and promote all relevant policies and procedures in Sunnymead.
  • It is important to remember that in the course of your work you will be aware of information which is of a highly confidential nature. Disclosure of any information about to any unauthorised information renders you liable for prosecution under the Data Protection act.

You are required to:

  • Report all accidents or untoward incidents immediately to the Home Manager or in her absence the person in Charge of Sunnymead at the time.
  • To be familiar with the fire drill and safety precautions.
  • Adhere at all times to the Smoking Policy.

You should note that under the Health and Safety at Work Legislation you are required to take all reasonable steps while at work to ensure your own health and safety and the health and safety of those who could be affected by your acts or omissions. You should not interfere with or misuse anything provided to you in the interests of Health, Safety and Welfare at work.
