Professionalism rewarded as Armagh City Hotel pair announced as finalists
Two long serving employees at Armagh City Hotel have been announced as finalists in this year’s Institute of Hospitality Awards for Professionalism 2023.
Nominees, husband and wife, Henk and Marie Compier have been nominated for Hotelier of The Year and Housekeeping Manager 2023 respectively.
This is not the first time the pair have been recognised for their dedication to their roles. A representative for the hotel said: “We are immensely proud of all our team in Armagh City Hotel, the nominations for both our General Manager, Henk and our Housekeeping Manager, Marie are thoroughly deserved.
“They are both long serving members of the management team. Henk has previously won awards from the Institute of Hospitality for Junior Food and Beverage Manager, Bar Manager of the Year and Future General Manager of the Year – so this nomination is a result of his hard work and dedication to his role, his team, and the Armagh City Hotel.
“Marie has also been nominated previously for her role in housekeeping, she is imperative in ensuring the quality of standard expected by all our guests. She leads a strong team with passion, hard work and dedication and is very deserving of this nomination.
We wish them both the best of luck in September.”
Henk arrived at the City Hotel over 17 years ago as a bartender and has since worked his way through the ranks to bar Supervisor, Assistant Bar Manager, Bar Manager, Operations Manager, Food and Beverage Manager and, as of February 28 2022, General Manager racking up awards along the way.
Of his nomination Henk said: “I am very excited to have reached the finals for the Institute of Hospitality’s Hotelier of the Year award – this is my first nomination as General Manager, I undertook this position post covid – which was very challenging times for the hospitality industry, I wanted to take Armagh City Hotel in a new direction. I am delighted that we are getting the recognition we deserve after such hard work and there is so much more to come from us.”
Marie, who is similarly delighted with the recognition, commented: “I am delighted to have reached the finals again and that the Armagh City Hotel and of course the housekeeping department in particular are being recognised for the high quality of standard we uphold daily, we have a strong, hardworking and dedicated team of housekeepers and this nomination is a result of that!”
The winners are due to be announced at a glittering black-tie ceremony at the Culloden Estate & Spa on Friday September 8.
